Creative Exchange

Duck ‘n Weave Artist Collective launched the first round of our facilitated mentorship program, Creative Exchange, in 2019 with a lovely group of inspiring artists. Since then, we have seen many aspects of the arts represented including jewellery, textiles, photography, ceramics, printmaking, painting, collage and writing.

Creative Exchange is for anyone who is driven to be making!

You might consider yourself a hobbyist or an emerging artist, or you may have an established art practice… Making art can be solitary at times, and having your own cheer squad can make a big difference to what your inner critic gets away with!

Our aim for the Creative Exchange program is to develop a community of artists at all stages of their practice, where we can support and encourage each other, and share useful resources. Just as importantly, we also assist participants in their professional development – we facilitate sessions around goal-setting skills, and recognising and working with your strengths, amongst other things.

Creative Exchange is held across twelve months – we meet for three hours, ten times for the year, discussing a range of topics relating to your artwork, your aspirations and inspirations, and challenges you may be facing as an artist.

As a result of COVID-19, we have had most of our meetings during 2020-2022 online using Zoom video conferencing. This has resulted in us being much more inclusive of creative people outside of Adelaide, so depending on the needs of applicants, this may continue for the next round. If participants are all in Adelaide at the time of a meeting, we will endeavour to get together in person.

Membership

Creative Exchange membership is by application. We meet all applicants and if numbers exceed available spots, we will determine the combination of people we feel will work best together.

This year we have secured further funding and are excited to offer 12 month Creative Exchange memberships for a subsidised price of $170 paid upfront, or $192 paid in monthly instalments of $16. This fee includes:

🔴 Access to our private Facebook group, where the conversations are continued between our current participants but also past members

🔴 Facilitated goal-setting activities

🔴 Topic-related resources from each meeting

🔴 The opportunity to present at our Duck ‘n Weave ‘Meet the Maker’ Conference as part of the SALA Festival in 2022

🔴 The opportunity to participate in the Creative Exchange Graduate exhibition as part of the Fringe Festival in 2023 (some additional costs involved)

🔴 Ongoing support and encouragement from Duck ‘n Weave

Numbers are limited to six participants for each program, and it is expected that members make a commitment to attend as many meetings as possible.
