Duck n Weave are preparing for our annual SALA exhibition with Parts Within, to be held at Pure Earth Café, 333 King William Street, Adelaide. It will be open from 8th August to 19 September, Monday to Friday 8am-2pm.
We love coming together for SALA – our very first exhibition as a collective was for SALA in 2016.

We are super excited to have welcomed 10 participants to the next round of Creative Exchange. This time, we are joined by Kirsty, Deirdre, Andrea, Cheryl, Annette, Caroline, Betty-ann, Alison, Catherine and Bernadette (for a second round!).
It’s a lot of fun getting to know each other and how we each work – really looking forward to diving deep together.
Over the next few months, we’ll be adding profiles of each participant, so you can learn a bit about them and their work too!
We are currently accepting expressions of interest for our third round of the Duck ‘n Weave Creative Exchange program, which will begin in May 2021.
The Creative Exchange is a twelve-month program – we meet for three hours, ten times for the year and discuss a range of topics relating to your artwork, your aspirations and inspirations, and challenges you may be facing. Our main interests are goals, accountability and action!
And by ‘artwork’, we mean any creative pursuits! Among our participants, we have had writers, a pastry chef, a jeweller, textile artists, painters….. If you’d like your own personal cheer squad, we’re here for you!
The program will be run out of Adelaide, South Australia, but as we will be meeting online via Zoom, location shouldn’t stop you from joining in! This year, we have been able to include a few in-person meetups, and a few times, people living near each other have Zoomed from one location, which has been lovely, too. We’ll see what next year brings!
After the upheaval of this year, we weren’t actually planning much for the SALA Festival this year, but things have worked in our favour and now we present TWO wonderful events!!
First up, Duck n Weave + Friends will be exhibiting Safe Travels at Ginger’s Coffee Studio in Goodwood. We had an exhibition here in 2017, so it’s lovely to return! We are excited to be joined by our current and some previous Creative Exchange participants. Our work will be there all through August and beyond…
And then, at the end of SALA, we present Meet the Maker– a virtual gathering of artists we admire and envy!! Throughout the day, we will be speaking online to each of them about their art practice, but also how they’ve dealt with the threat and disruption caused by COVID19. Check out our M+M page for the details… It’s going to be an online adventure!
Today was a fitting date for our three amazing Creative Exchange participants to complete their program with Duck ‘n Weave – they took their ‘creative leap’ on Feb 29th!
We’ve not only forged lovely friendships over the last twelve months, but also kept each other accountable creatively. We’ve cheered each other on when challenges have arisen, and commiserated when things have gone awry. And because creativity doesn’t exist in a vacuum, we’ve also shared other milestones together too!
We spent time reflecting on the benefits of the Creative Exchange and will have something to share with you shortly based on these conversations.
In the meantime, we wish Fatema, Sue and Naomi all the best for their creative endeavours – a new studio space, a book, online workshops, using the word ‘artist’ near your name… so much to look forward to! Thanks for joining us in the inaugural Creative Exchange xx
If you are interested in joining the next Creative Exchange, starting at the end of May 2020, check out our information page for more details about cost and structure.
